Kathy Lazarus knew Helen Lin from the summer programs at Middlebury College. Her undergraduate work was in East Asian Civilizations and Chinese Language at Harvard University. She earned master’s degrees in Adult Education from Boston University, in International Public Policy from The University of Michigan, and in Human and Organizational Systems from the Fielding Graduate Institute. Beginning in the late 1970s, she worked as a diversity and cross-cultural communications consultant. Her company, Communications Cross Cultural, provided mediation services and customized coaching, primarily to scientists and engineers originally from outside the U.S., who were transitioning into leadership positions within the U.S. She retired in 2015. Top priority issues for her these days include climate change and voting rights. She is as interested in poetry and plants as she is in people and politics.
